In a 'Deliberative Practice,' we're all expected to learn with and from each other. At this link on this page, you can read and download some of our supportive documents. These pages are provided for two reasons: first, to share some of our learnings on best-practices and deliberative philosophy with colleagues; and second, to encourage the continued development in the art and science of deliberation. Lots of other supportive documents are available, but these are provided here as an introduction to deliberation as a professional 'Practice.'
Here are a few of our background documents on the art and science of deliberation:
- NIF Deliberation Overview...one-page basic summary of NIF-style conversations
- Effective Issues Forums--Map...provides a diagram view of how deliberation contributes to public decisions
- Effective Issues Forums--Notes...gives a narrative explanation of the diagram above
- Issue Decision Chart...describes public decisions as a complex community of active participants
- Decision Matrix...a more detailed chart where showing how different types of decisions are made by different participants
- Deliberative Roles...lists the unique roles involved in effective deliberative projects
- Issue Tour Kettering Memo...provides a view of deliberation as a tour of an issue 'landscape'
